Jeffery Lamar Williams, known professionally as Young Thug, is a rapper, singer, and songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. Among the most influential and musically innovative rappers of the past decade, Young Thug fundamentally transformed hip-hop's vocal delivery, introducing a wildly unpredictable mix of melodic runs, mumbled bars, pitched-up squeals, and genre-fluid experimentation that made him nearly impossible to categorize. He pioneered the "Slime" aesthetic (the nickname of his YSL collective) and inspired a generation of artists including Lil Uzi Vert, Future, and Gunna. His collaboration album "Slime Language" (2018) and studio albums "So Much Fun" (2019) and "Punk" (2021) are landmark recordings. He earned a Grammy for co-writing Camila Cabello's "Havana" in 2017. Despite being incarcerated since 2022 on sweeping RICO charges related to YSL, his music has continued to chart, and his influence on modern rap remains immeasurable and constantly cited by peers.
