FEATURED EMBEDEDITORIAL BIOGRAPHY & ARTISTIC LEGACY
José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, born May 7, 1985, in Medellín, Colombia, worked as a dishwasher and dog-walker in the United States as a teenager before returning to Medellín to pursue music. His 2014 single "6 AM" sparked regional attention, but "Ginza" (2015) ignited his international career, topping charts in over 20 countries. "Energia" (2016) became the first Spanish-language album to top the US Latin Airplay chart for 20 consecutive weeks. His collaborations read like a global superstar masterclass: "Mi Gente" with Willy William (remixed by Beyoncé), "Safari" with Pharrell Williams, and "I Like It" with Cardi B and Bad Bunny. He was Spotify's most-streamed Latin artist for multiple consecutive years. Balvin openly discusses his battles with depression and anxiety, partnering with mental-health professionals through his PSYCH initiative to provide free resources to Latin communities. He has won three Latin Grammy Awards and multiple Billboard Latin Music Awards.
