Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, born July 2, 1991, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, grew up in a music-immersed household—his grandfather was manager to Fela Kuti—before releasing the Afrofusion single "Like to Party" in 2012, which went viral across Nigeria and established his signature blend of Afrobeats, dancehall, reggae, and R&B. His 2020 album "Twice as Tall" won the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album, making him one of the most celebrated African artists in Grammy history. "Love, Damini" (2022) debuted in the top five of the Billboard 200, a remarkable achievement for an African artist. A collaborator with Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé, Sam Smith, and J Balvin, Burna Boy has consistently expanded Afrobeats' global footprint with each release. He is the first African artist to sell out Madison Square Garden (2022), London's O2 Arena, and Paris's Stade de France—a historic trio that announced Afrobeats' arrival as a true global mainstream genre. His advocacy for Pan-African unity and Nigerian youth empowerment is central to his artistic identity.
